Eye Plastics: Specialist Reconstruction

What is eye plastic surgery?
Despite its association with Hollywood’s creme-de-la-creme, plastic surgery isn’t just about visual appeal. The word plastic is of Greek origin and carries the idea of forming, shaping, or molding. In the spirit of the original etymology, plastic surgery re-molds certain areas of the body. Eye plastic surgery, or oculoplastics, focuses on reconstruction of the eye area: eyelids, eyebrows, cheeks, orbit and tear systems.
Why see an oculoplastic surgeron?
Eye plastic surgery is an elite sub-specialty. Oculoplastic surgeons, also known as oculo-facial surgeons, are ophthalmologists who have completed extensive post-residency training that involves plastic and reconstructive surgery on the facial tissues around the eyes. You may think an eyelid lift is a straightforward procedure that could be performed by any licensed surgeon. However, the eyelid is a specialized organ that produces tears and nourishes and protects the eyes. Wouldn’t you agree that something as intricate (and important!) as your eye deserves a specialized surgeon?
Where is an eye plastic surgeon to be found?
The region’s only oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Sterling Cannon, practices right here at West Georgia Eye Care Center. He’s an expert in all things oculo-facial-related, from cosmetic correction of baggy lower eyelids to the post-trauma reconstruction of the orbit. This wide range of surgical care makes for a diverse group of patients. Dr. Cannon sees sophisticated southern ladies looking to get a little “eyelid work” done as well as hard-core bikers injured in motorcycle spills. They all end up raving about the same doctor! Whatever your reason for oculoplastic attention, come see Dr. Cannon. We know you’ll rave, too!
