Shark Week 2021, Light Rays and LASIK
Posted by: West Georgia Eye Care Center in Frontpage Article on July 15, 2021
This week is Shark Week and an opportunity to relate amazing shark facts to almost everything… even LASIK! A scientist studying shark vision remarked that his job was difficult because sharks don’t go to the eye doctor. While he was stating the obvious, the more important message is that there is still a lot to learn about sharks, and many other species, and how they see.
Sharks Glow –
Marine scientists are researching an amazing characteristic of some sharks to fluoresce. Fluorescence is the emission of light by something that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation. Apparently, sharks have the ability to see their species’ fluorescence. Fluorescence in natural light is usually invisible to the human eye because it has a longer wavelength. The length and bending of light rays also have very important implications for the diagnosis and treatment of some human eye conditions.
iLASIK & iDesign-
Optics (the branch of physics that studies the behavior and properties of light) has connections to nearly every living thing, from fish to people. Advances in technologies, using the principals of optics, have led to the present generation of laser vision correction. West Georgia Eye Care Center is the region’s only iLASIK provider with iDesign. This system measures the myriad ways that light enters each individual eye that is scanned and results in treatments as unique to the patient as their fingerprints.
Free Consultation –
As the scientist pointed out, sharks can’t visit the eye doctor. But, you can! If you are interested in freedom from your glasses and contact lenses, with the most scientifically advanced technologies available, call us today for a free LASIK consultation!
