May is ‘Better Hearing Month’ and hopefully after reading this blog, you may be on your way to better hearing! West Georgia Eye Care Center (WGECC) established West Georgia Hearing Services (WGH) to provide hearing services in a professional environment for our patients as vision and hearing deficits often go hand in hand. In fact, hearing loss is the third most common condition among aging Americans. We strive to earn our patients trust in our ‘commitment to excellence and spirit of service’ and believe that they will receive the same from Viola Best, our Board Certified Hearing Specialist at West Georgia Hearing Services!
Viola’s Short List of Hearing Loss Facts:
- 48 million Americans suffer from hearing loss.
- 1 in 6 Baby Boomers struggle with hearing loss.
- Half of all adults age 75 and older have hearing loss.
- 90 – 95% of people with hearing loss can be treated with hearing aids
While those statistics may be impressive, the good news is that hearing loss is one of the most treatable health issues in the world! Today’s hearing aids offer advanced technologies that can be life-changing! They even have the capability to readily interact and connect with other digital devices like iPhones, Android phones, smart TV’s, and other Bluetooth devices! Your smart hearing aids can help you hear your smartphone!
If you, or someone you care for, is experience ringing in the ears (tinnitus), missing parts of conversations, or noticing that things once easily heard are difficult or impossible to hear, then it’s time to have a hearing evaluation. Hearing Evaluations at West Georgia Hearing are free , they only take about an hour, and can provide good information about your options. (Age 18 and older only, children need to see an audiologist!) Sometimes a hearing problem is easy to remedy: obstruction of built-up ear wax, for instance, in which case we’ll refer you for cleaning of the ear canal.
As expected though, hearing aids are often the solution for better hearing. WGH will help you find the hearing aids that will best meet your needs, and most come with a 3 year warranty. Training and adjustments are included in the cost. As we know hearing aids can be costly, up to 24 month interest free financing is available to make purchasing more affordable. Some insurance may help with a portion of the cost, and our hearing specialist can answer your insurance questions.
